My family had a picnic there last sunday Early morning or late evening is best time to visit Having seen some photos before our trip we were excited to do some exploring in Glendalough. We parked near the visitor's center, and walked to this sight first. This is a great jumping off point in the area. It's a very short walk from the visitor's center, and from just this spot, you can see a lot. I also believe you pass this spot on the way to every other listed walking trail.

We were doing the lake loop and passed this site going and coming. Worth a stop, but I also definitely recommend walking a bit further down some of the trails. With more time we'd love to explore this area more in the future. There were several walking paths available from very easy to more difficult, so there was certainly something for everyone. We also stopped for a quick snack at a nearby concession stand. Not great food, kind of pricey too. This area would be great for a picnic if you plan ahead and bring your own food.
